MERIT Profile Description

Summary

The MERIT Profile helps companies grow their business based on hiring people with the desired character qualities and developing current employees toward practicing those same qualities. Because making decisions in the hiring and development process must be timely, all MERIT Profile reports are available in an online environment with the option by the end user to print reports on a case-by-case basis.

The MERIT Profile provides the end-user, often a hiring manager or recruiter, with a set of five valuable reports at the click of a mouse. All reports are produced from the MERIT Profile Survey that is completed online by a job candidate or current employee.

The important thing to understand about the MERIT Profile Survey is that it is not a “personality test” based on anecdotal information. Rather, it is a sixty-item research-based instrument, developed by Precision Human Development, Ltd., that purports to measure four factors of behavior and ten qualities of character. We are not aware of any other assessment instrument that provides this unique combination of insights into an individual.

The ten qualities of character are described in an acrostic called the MAXIMIZERS, a framework developed by Future Achievement International and applied in multi-cultural contexts spanning 50+ countries. The scoring for each letter of the MAXIMIZERS defines a different character quality. When ranked in order from highest to lowest, MAXIMIZERS scores identify the individual’s character strengths (assets) and weaknesses (development needs).

Every individual has one or more areas or relative weakness where the appropriate corrective action steps can be recommended. Those action steps are part of the written report, but they are tailored to address the particular set of weaknesses recorded by the individual. Personal, professional coaching can often address an individual’s needs.

In summary, the MERIT Profile information has been designed for use as part of the overall process an organization applies to decisions regarding external hiring and internal employee development.

Overview

Typically there are character qualities (CQs) that an organization desires equally throughout all positions in the company. The MAXIMIZERS principles and resulting MERIT Profile Reports provide a view of those qualities that allow a company to evaluate whether an individual is a good fit on an organizational level.

For example, if a company places significant value at all levels on behaviors that are defined as “proactive,” the MERIT Profile will help it see how every person completing the assessment compares to that expectation. MERIT Profile Reports are useful for both hiring decisions and employee coaching purposes, but they should not be used as the exclusive criteria for either activity.
